Christmas Campaign
by the Wreikkinen |
We replaced our Remembrance Day exhibit with a Christmas Exhibit. A Christmas Flag, Grinch Garden Flag, Santa Stop Sign, Elf on the Shelf and a Community Christmas Tree in a box.
Our family is asking the elves in our community to help us sponsor a Edmonton based family in need of Christmas cheer. If you are or know of a family in need of more cheer this Christmas - please direct message or email: welcome@MontageInMotion.com The plan: We hope to find a family and identify some gift ideas for the kids (be on the look for updates). We will ask the community to help us make a hamper of food donations. Donate some previously loved toys for the kids. Help us to decorate the Community Tree with a string of lights, unused Christmas ornaments or a tree topper. On December 22nd we will deliver the Community Tree, hamper of food, toys, and a hot chicken meal to the sponsored family. If we do not find a family before Christmas - we will donate everything to the Edmonton Food Bank. If you have a donation message or drop it off at 12117 127th Street NW. |
Boys _n Cr_s_s
Image on Flag Augustus & Dellas Wreikkinen |
We have installed a new art exhibit “Boys _n Cr_s_s”. This piece was inspired in part by Warren Farrell and John Gray’s book - The Boy Crisis. It is a thick book. In parts, it explorers how boys/men are being left behind. More men are quietly dropping out of life. Lost boys are more likely to hurt themselves and in extreme cases hurt others. It explores how much this impacts everyone. It explores how to advocate for boy/men without taking away from others. Boys are being quietly left behind. We do need to create spaces that inspire our boys to participate in their potential.
Proud of my son who has been audio booking and discussing “The Boy Crisis” with me. Augustus helped me to draft the Crisis Campaign Flag on display. My son and I stand up for the Boys is Crisis. Will you have us stand alone? If anyone wants to book club this - drop me a message. welcome@MontageInMotion.com |

Is Water the New Small Pox?
Rebecca, Augustus & Dellas Wreikkinen |
Some art is suppose to make us feel warm and cozy. Some art is intended to be resented. This is the first protest art to be installed in our Lil' Garden Gallery @ 12117 127th Street NW - Edmonton.
Hoping this art makes you uncomfortable and you hate it. Uncomfortable enough to act or react. Pondering do we provide more clean water outside of Canada than within. Organizations within Canada's Geo provide fresh water to communities in need. While peoples in our Geo go without. It is within our boarders to give. It is within our expertise to provide - however it is not within our shared political fabric to respond. Choose generous or genocide! Inaction is a choice! |

Liam Thomas
Paint on Board |
Liam Thomas is a local artist who has been secretly beautifying our neighbourhood. You may have noticed or will start noticing over the last few years Liam has been placing his art in our neighbourhood. I have found art tacked to telephone poles and other locations in our community.
In the Artists own words: I am a local artist who was told about your art board and have been meaning to reach out for some time. I put up art onto power poles, public bollards, the occasional back of a bench. I had attempted putting art into the Free Little Libraries but found children destroying those pieces and leaving debris on the ground, so I have not done that since. I pick up pieces off the ground and repost them elsewhere or take them home for repurposing/putting up on my walls; people are welcome to remove the art from power poles to keep but I do not endorse leaving them on the ground. I put up art in order to inspire joy in my neighbours and myself, to make the world a little less dreary. I also sell art but making it and putting it into the world is more important than the money for me. If you would like some pieces to keep or to put up for auction for a charity, I would be happy to give them to you for nothing. Also if you have any feedback on my art / how I post it I would be happy to hear it; I receive very little positive or negative feedback. I’m autistic, don’t really use social media and don’t go outside too much. I hope to engage in behaviour that is healthy for me and my community, to pursue the good even if my approach is uncommon. In the spirit of reconciliation we are updating our Garden Gallery with two posters we ordered from https://150acts.weebly.com
These posters express 150 Acts of Reconciliation. We encourage anyone to come by and check them out: 12117 127th Street NW - Edmonton. After installing the posters my son and I read all the 150 acts to each other. We are committing as a family to check an item or two each month on this list. We encourage our community to do the same. If you love the posters as much as we do order them from the site - proceeds go to a Scholarship for Indigenous Students at the University of Alberta. Or choose to bid on our displayed posters which will be awarded to the highest bidder on August 1st, 2022. All proceeds will be donated to the GWIIZII TS'ÀT GWITÀATSÀH (WE WILL MAKE IT BETTER AWARD) Scholarship Fund. |

Anirniq by Cheyenne
Mixed media: woods, veneers, beads, soapstone, bone, rope, hide, paint, stain and wood burning. |
Artist: Cheyenne Omeosoo
Cheyenne chose to create a custom piece for our Garden Gallery. The piece is named after the new ward in which our Garden Gallery resides - Anirniq (Breath of Life). We are humbled by his generous spirit and consideration. The piece is mixed media and is a depiction of Sentry Island along the Hudsons Bay. We see an Inuit Man singing Breath of Life in syllabics. If you look to the sky you may find the little dipper. Chey has created many other landscape pieces of sacred places in Alberta and beyond. He is self taught in history, land, language, wood working and First Nations Astronomy. He fuses all of these with his own unique creativity. Yellow & Red Flowers by Nicole
Mixed media: Whitefish Scales & Porcupine Quill This is an authentic Canadain Native product, handmade and designed in the traditional of Canada's First People |
Artist: Nicole Batog
Nicole has created many pieces of Traditional Native Art after following her roots by participating in and teaching programs offered by Portage College in Lac La Biche, Alberta. The three pieces chosen are of a collection she made in 1986. To create traditional pieces like these, the majority of the materials were locally sourced in or nearby Calling Lake, Alberta. The fish scales and porcupine quills were then dyed to create the custom colours. The Lil' Red Dress Project is Nicole's chosen recipient of any donations made during the auction of these art pieces. And, the purpose of choosing them is to raise awareness of the “MMIWG2S” (The meaning of the abbreviation is, "Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 Spirited People'') who have been taken and/or murdered in Canada. In her words, “It has always been my feeling that the women, girls and 2 spirited people of this country have been under valued or under-recognized, so by supporting Lil' Red Dress Project, I support that all women deserve to be noticed and to be brought home respectively.” According to an article published by CTV on May 5, 2021, The RCMP stated, "there are nearly 1,200 missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada, though it’s believed the number could be much higher." In addition to the instalment of these pieces, Omni Wreikkinen (5) has chosen to publicly display her red dress to show support and help raise awareness. While it is clear there has been ample historical trauma associated with Indigenous people, it is my hope that we leave behind a legacy of historical healing and reconciliation. Artist: Kaylee Ross
Kaylee Rose, the owner of Kay Rose Creative, is a full-time Edmonton artist who re-ignited her painting passion 5 years ago once she started teaching painting around Alberta. She has taught over 10,000 people and has her art in over 30,000 homes all over the United States and Canada. Kaylee graduated from MacEwan University for Graphic Design and Photography. She went from being a full-time commercial photographer for five years to a full-time animal acrylic painter. She is grateful for her creative University background as she plays with mixing graphic design, photography, illustration, and photo manipulation daily for her art. Inspired by escapism into a world of color and comfort, her goal is to inspire others to tap into their creative and carefree mindset. Since the pandemic she finds joy teaching others to paint online for free, creating murals, painting clients pet portraiture, and trying several evolving and different art forms. These pieces are created to bring joy and fill up a room with color, upon purchasing these items you will be excited to know that all the proceeds will be going to support our local community, so decorate your home with a little extra rainbow magic while knowing that this piece has also changed lives for the better!
